Excitement and Lesson Planning

Like I mentioned in my last post… Rachel Williams and I have become very close this year since we will be on the same first grade team at Combs starting January 2nd full time!! I can’t believe that the time is finally here to student teach. I feel prepared, but I am still nervous. My excitement outweighs any anxiety I may have, though. It seems like I’ve been waiting my whole life for this wonderful opportunity to student teach at a school I love and with a teacher that I admire so much.

Earlier this week, Rachel and I met with Dr. Laura Bottomley at N.C. State. She’s the director of K-12 Outreach at N.C. State’s College of Engineering. You can check out her cool bio here. We are so fortunate to have Dr. Bottomley’s insight to help guide our lesson plan ideas for the science unit we will be teaching on balance and motion. She is also hooking us up with some resources that we will need. Rachel and I are both SO pumped to teach this unit… there may be stomp rockets involved. 😉 Get ready, first graders!!

Inaugural Ball

Rachel Williams and I had the honor of attending the 13th Annual Combs Inaugural Ball. It was so much fun! It was very cool being a part of this great tradition. Rachel is student teaching with Mrs. Catherwood in first grade as well, and so we found some of our first graders and danced the night away!

Pictures soon to come (pending permission)!

Student Teaching

As a student at NC State University, I have the privilege of being involved in a classroom year round for my student teaching requirement.

I am learning under the wonderful Ed Kelley at A. B. Combs Elementary. It is a leadership magnet school in Raleigh, NC and I already love it so much!

Today was the first day of school, and I absolutely love each one of my precious first graders already! I can tell that it is going to be an amazing year. I have such incredible teachers and staff to look up to and learn a lot from.
